At Home In Bramasole
I have loved Frances Mayes from the first moment I read Under the TuscanSun. Here was a wordsmith of outstand grace, lyrical style, poetic powers, and a passion for a new life that infected everyone who read her book.
Her new book Every Day in Tuscany: Seasons of an Italian Lifecontinues to deliver on the magic. After 20 years of life at Bramasole Frances Mayes has not lost her silken touch. As she explores the areas around Cortona, the village close to her come, you come in contact with the rich tapestry of a land, her people, her art and her history. They all happen at once in Italy where old world values still hold out against our on rushing fast paced global culture.
From the time I began to cook I feel in love with the simple art of Italian Food and in the book Frances Mayes reignites that abundant Mediterranean way with all of natures finest blessings all in the season to which they come to ripeness.
Here are some of the quotes I picked out of the book that struck home to me:
“It is paradoxical but true that something that takes you out of yourself also restores you to yourself with a greater freedom.”
“The Journey itself is home”
“We were on the cusp of night in soft southern air, held in that air as though we belonged to the place itself and not the lighted houses with mothers outline in the doorways.”

There is so much more there, but I will leave you to discover the gems that sparkle on every page.
Take some time out (it’s okay, the Italians have a way of doing that which adds riches and zest to their lives, settle down with this book and drift away to another world, out of time, where life is lived and a more human pace and on a more human scale. This is a moment to forget about your headlines, and dream of escape.
Here is a video clip from Under the Tuscan Sun, I thought you might enjoy.

Quote About Books
How vast an estate it is that we came into as the intellectual heirs of all the watchers and searchers and thinkers and singers of the generations that are dead! What a heritage of stored wealth! What perishing poverty of mind we should be left in without it!
