Keeping Focused

In our busy work lives with so many things impinging on our minds, with worries about our business, and our family all piling up, we need a little exercise to bring us back into focus, into the present moment so we can devote our energy to the task at hand. Being able to do this skyrockets productivity thereby allowing more time to the real number one thing in your life.

This one is so simple to do, you can do it anywhere at any time.

The process comes from Way of the Peaceful Warrior: A Book That Changes Lives by Dan Millman.

In the book a conversation takes place with Socrates asking a couple of simple questions of the young man he is mentoring.

Basically those questions boil down to these two with their simple answers:

Where are you?

What time is it?

I use these four short lines as a mantra, saying them over and over again…working to make each answer to the question “new”, until I find myself coming back into the present,  beginning to really look around me again and thus become conscious of my life as it is in the astounding beauty of now, and allowing be to get back into focus on the current task.

Of course you don’t have to wait until you are totally off track to use these 9 simple words. Stop once in awhile during your day…perhaps at lunch time, or afternoon tea, or just before the sun sinks below the horizon. Say them to bring yourself fully into the treasure that is your life…where you really live it…right now in this most precious of moments.

You’ll be surprised how much more work you can get done.

Give it a try and let me know how you did with it.
