Today Bloggers all over the world unite for Hunger and Hope in order to raise awareness of the devastating effects of hunger on a young mind.
Poverty is poorly understood in North America even though it’s cruel hands reach out to throttle hope even in Canada and the United States.
Worse than the ravaging effects of hunger on the human body, there is a great toll on literacy and hope. Education is difficult when hunger is your only concern. Many are too poor to attend school having to grub instead in piles of trash searching for that one piece of junk that will put food on the table, or help a sick sister or an ailing parent.
Beautiful Summer Morning is all about Human Potential, about the greatness that lies in everyone of us. We want every child to experience that morning when you wake to an awareness of the limitless potential that awaits your calling. To wake serenely to the early morning sun, to see the day spread out before you in one glorious sequence of moments just awaiting your presence to come alive. We want every child to hear the sounds of a house waking up around them, to smell the aromas of breakfast, to hear a mother singing as she prepares your breakfast favorites. We want every child to rise and shine and live up to their life potential.
The unique thing about heifer.org is the gift you give is in the form of animals that will not only provide much needed protein in the form of eggs or milk, but also provide extra income to each family.
I just donated a flock of chicken,( for just $20US) mainly because I use to have my own flock of chicken and know how valuable a resource they provide.
I have copied the following information directly from their website.
Flock of Chicks
Chicks: A Good Choice
A flock of chicks can help families from Cameroon to the Caribbean add nourishing, life-sustaining eggs to their inadequate diets.
The protein in just one egg is a nutritious gift for a hungry child. Protein-packed eggs from even a single chicken can make a life-saving difference.
Heifer helps many hungry families with a starter flock of 10 to 50 chicks. A good hen can lay up to 200 eggs a year – plenty to eat, share or sell. With Heifer recipients’ commitment to pass on the offspring and training, the exponential impact of adding chickens to communities in poverty is truly a model that helps end hunger and poverty.
Because chickens require little space and can thrive on readily available food scraps, families can make money from the birds without spending much. And chickens help control insects and fertilize gardens.
In Tanzania, Omari and Kulwa were struggling to raise a family on just 50 cents a day. With the training and chicks they received from Heifer, egg sales have boosted their daily income to $2, so they can now buy food and still pay prescription cialis generic school fees. Now, through passing on the gift, all of the children in their village are going to school.
I urge you to go to the Heifer (this link takes you right to their Catalog page.) and make a similar donation, be it a goat, a water buffalo, a flock of chicken or a Heifer you will be doing so much to restore to many children the possibility to live out their life to the full potential each one of them has within; to offer them each a beautiful summer morning.
If each of my readers, and this blog averages between 300 and 500 readers a day, were to donate just one flock of chickens, just think of the impact that would have on the lives of many poverty stricken families.
As the logo says, Hunger and Hope. Hope is a potential until we make it real.
Enjoy a Beautiful Summer Morning,
