The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.

The simple things are the most beautiful the most precious, the most intense emotionally, the most joyful.

I took a walk with my dog today. The sun came out through big billowy clouds riding above the mountains. Flocks of snow geese did there V’s across the blue sky and the green fields. In the breeze I detected the scents of earth and the sun warmed my skin. Wow. The simple things.

1. A fresh new summer morning. (Well what else would I start with?)

2. Sitting in my favorite chair with a good book and a cup of tea.

3. Sunshine

4. black coffee

5. sitting under a tree looking up through the canopy of leaves to the blue sky.

  1. Wow Nick, I’m finding myself struggling with this one because my mind’s just not in the proper place. I mean, 5 simple things, and you even gave examples, and I feel like I’m stuck… Well now, let’s see…

    1. Watching babies or puppies

    2. Eating something, anything chocolate

    3. Writing

    4. Watching snow fall

    5. Smelling the different aromatic scents throughout the house

    Yup, that’s all I’ve got. :-)

  2. I’m proud of you Mitch. But really…for all of us…should it be such a struggle? I would be willing to bet, that if you spend some time watching the snow fall, you’d think of half a dozen more simple things…like sitting under a tree watching clouds go by.

    Nick

  3. Nick, you know I don’t go outside, so the odds of me sitting under a tree are nil! lol
