I am inspired by the egg man I met by the side of the road this past Sunday.
I had ventured out at 5.30 in the morning with my trusty compainion Felix, who is alway up for a little adventure. On our way out to our walkies location I noticed this old, red and battered truck pulled off on the side of road opposite me. He had old plywood signs resting against the bumpers back and front that said “Eggs for Sale.”
I am alway on the look out for farm fresh eggs…I don’t buy grocery store ones. I usually have to go off to a goat farm.
But before I could stop…I was all ready by the truck.
Oh well I’ll remember for next time.
About an hour and a half later…Felix and I are on our way back and the truck is still there.
I pulled over and pray I have change in my pocket.
I approach the truck, to be greeted by this older gentlemen…probably in his sixties.
First thing I notices were his eyes… they were sky blue and bright with spirit and sparkle…which just made me smile.
I said “I knew I put these coins in my pocket this morning for a reason.”
He laughed…and presented me with his last carton of eggs.
Then I noticed the man had a great deal of trouble talking. It was hard to understand what he was saying…not because he spoke a different language but because he had some kind of
speech impediment.
Still I asked him how often he came out here. And he explained that Sunday’s he was right here on the east side of Mission, and on Saturday he would be
Viagra Professional over on the west side. He starts about 5.30 am both days.
We had a great time chatting even with the speech problem. I soon learn to adjust. All the time he had a bright smile and even brighter eyes.
I noticed that he didn’t have a truck radio…no reading material…nothing to entertain himself but the morning and the quiet wait for people to pull up and buy his eggs. Enjoy the moment….if only we could all sit quietly like that in the early morning.
I kicked my self for not having my camera along to take a picture of his truck.
As I drove off I felt humbled by this bright eyed happy man.
You never know when the magic will happen…you need to be ready even at 5.30 AM in the morning.
With Love
