Happiness Project By Gretchen Rubin: Saturday Books
Gretchen Rubin‘s book The Happiness Project: Or, Why I Spent a Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean My Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun, is a wonderful, easy read that grabs you and holds your interest right to the end. I love the way the book is set up, taking each month with its various objective for each month and a running commentary on how she is doing with each step.
Her style is chatty…like you are sitting across the kitchen tablewith a coffee and talking about daily occurrences which makes the whole conversation that takes place over the year very intimate.
In the book, Gretchen doesn’t try to hide or mask her own short comings. She is quite open about where she struggles. She honestly assesses whether one of her strategies works or not.
Her whole approach is of one grand adventure and we get to share with her…her successes and failures. We get a very personal glimpse into her life and that of hre family.
I like the way she organized her project and her blog…http://www.happiness-project.com/ is a great way to stay connected and to find all the materials you need to start your own happiness project, an undertaking I highly recommend, if just for the sheer fun of embarking on a year long project that is going to expand and grow you in so many ways.
It took me a long time to read this book, not because it is difficult, but because the book sparked so many thoughts and ideas to chase after, that I found myself constantly putting the book down and making journal notes.
If you are a seeking to add more wonder, magic and joy to your life, which is why I hope you are here, then one way to grow is through the experience of undertaking the change a project like this will produce in you.
I highly recommend this book…it is a joy to read and full of great insights.
