Inspirational Quote

You don’t have to let yourself be terrorised by other people’s expectation of you.

Your Expectations

I figured the above to be a great quote considering where we left off last issue.

How are your three list going?

You should have three list going with these headings:

Things You Must Do or Have to Do

Things You are Expected to Do

Things You Love to Do

The idea of listing things out is to see if we can’t shift some things around which will in essence allow you to step outside the time stream of your busy life.

The quote is important because much of the time you will be able to free up will come out of that second list…what others and yourself expect of you.

So many of the items in the second list are self imposed through a sense of duty. Women especially get trapped into this list trying to meet her own and each family member’s needs. Motherhood duty requires you to keep the house clean and orderly despite what everyone else is doing. Laundry, Vacuuming, and cooking all fall into this category. Many other things fall into this category as well…Mary Jane’s dance lessons, and Mike’s Kick Boxing class.

Keep working on this list and once you feel you have a nearly complete list then it’s time to gather the family together and ask their help in creating your FREE TIME ZONE. Explain how their help could improve there own life. If you are single you will need to have a serious conversation with self about self imposed expectation that go beyond the true requirements of daily living.

While the first list offers less opportunity for creating your FREE TIME ZONE you may still find options. Going to the dentist is unavoidable… you can’t send someone else. But there might be items on the list you can contract out. As an example I have a company come in and clean my gutters on a regular basis, though it would be cheaper to do the job myself. Contracting out is no longer something only big companies do. For a great book about out sourcing your life check out the book below.

Your goal is to start freeing up chunks of time for your own personal use. At first you might just find an afternoon, but soon you can start scheduling whole days to your FREE TIME ZONE.

Now the FREE TIME ZONE you carve out requires only two things. The first is to plan out what you would like to do during your hours of freedom from the Mad Hatter world of Alice in Wonderland. The second thing you need to do, and you must be religious about this…DO NOT PUT ANY TIME RESTRAINTS ON YOUR PLAN. If you do you will find your self right back where you started from.

Say you plan is to spend the day in the garden…then leave if at that. Don’t plan beyond the general. Don decided to weed for 1 hour, plant for one hour, build a new bed for 1 hour etc. That would put you right back into the time game.

One more thing: DO NOT MEET UP WITH SOMEONE ON A TIME AGENDA WHILE YOU ARE IN YOUR FREE TIME ZONE. If your best friend calls to see if you can meet them at twelve for an hour lunch, refuse! Or if you can’t refuse out right tell them you can’t promise to be there at twelve…you might be an hour or two late… if that’s okay with them…People caught up in time madness simply can’t tolerate indefinite time lines.

As for your last list…Things You Love To Do…it’s the most important list of all, so keep listing and I will see you an Friday to show you how important that list is to your well being.
