Sometimes I don`t write in my journal for a long time. I use to worry about this. Perhaps the muse was drying up. Is the inspiration gone. I tried to force myself to write, but what came out was dry and cracked from effort. It took me a long time to just let it happen , when it was happening. Now I just say, when I haven`t written in my journal for awhile `things are baking.“ Inevitably the flow begins again and for awhile things pour out onto those pages, and I get to share some of those things with you. Like today which is about safe places.

Safe Places

In places the lane is tunneled by trees arching from each side of the road to touch in the center overhead. The criss-cross of branches let in dapples of sunlight as I flash by, reminding me of spreading fingers trying to hold back bright sunshine.

Too much light can blind, too little can cripple.

The bike wheels sing over the pavement. From each side of the narrow lane happy vegetation reaches out to brush against my ankles, tickling me as I ride.

There is a wide sweep of lane-way coming up which curves along a wheat field at golden harvest height. Then it`s down into the shadowy cool gully and now the climb up out of the valley until you can see the panorama of the land stretched out below. Neat hedge rows divide the fields, a giant patchwork quilt made of land.

I stop to take it all in. I wrap myself in the blanket of this holy place…feel safe.

Mornings break here with a sweet mist that comes down across the high meadows to be snagged on the dew drench shrubbery, creating a soft grey start to the day before the sun burns through to bath this green world in gold.

The above is an excerpt from my journal.
The scene came to me out of the blue.
Maybe I needed a safe place at that moment where I could go.
We all need that place of safety.
That place lives beyond this world, but it is real…very real.
Think of it as just another part of the mystery.
You probably all ready have your safe place.
That is where home is…that is what home is.
