Home Within

In much of the northern hemisphere autumn holds sway with a firm hand in early November. The night comes down early, and a chill springs into the evening air and soon the snow is drifting down on a world suddenly gone quiet.

That is the time when HOME takes on a magical, mystical aura. Memories mingle with powdered snow and evoke the timeless pleasure of warmth and security. These are ancestral memories that go back through eons of time to those first crackling winter fires deep within the cave out of the reach of the icy blasts of the wind.

My memories go back to the farm house and the wood stove and the big dinning table with all of us sitting around trying to match pieces of a puzzle as swirls of snow drifted passed the windows. I go back to a time when the whole family was still here…when we were… complete.

Yet home has a wonderful duality. For home is here too…here in this quiet house with the clocks ticking and the stirring of the wind outside… the sleeping dogs keeping me company while they dream…and the warmth and security.

These are places of the heart, places of the soul.

And my hope…that every man woman and child on this planet have that place in their hearts where they can go to be home…warm and secure.
