“Miracles are a retelling in small letters of the very same story which is written across the whole world in letters too large for some of us to see.”

The Whole World

This quote is worth your admission for the week!

I have a miracle in small letters to relate to you.

This winter here on the west coast of Canada, in Beautiful British Columbia, has been more severe than our usually mild climate provides. As the big freeze came on my fish pond in the garden started to freeze over. This has happen many times in the eight years I’ve had the pond. However, as the snow continued to fall, even with the water pump running, the ice began to take over.

One morning I went down to the pond to discover to my dismay that the pump had stopped working and all was ice. After that came another freeze and even more snow, burying the fish pond completely. This had not happened before.

When I first dug the pond I went down 3.5 feet so that the goldfish could survive most winters. But the water pump that circulates and filters the water had never stopped working in those other years. For the pump to have stopped it would mean that the ice had made it pretty much to the bottom of the pond.

Fast forward almost six weeks. I’d resigned myself to the loss of my gold fish. A friend told me they had lost theirs.

As the thaw began and the ice melted away, I could see I needed to top up the pond. So I turned on the hose and let it run.I turned the pump back on which to my surprise started pumping again.

A few hours later, because I forgot to turn off the hose, I dashed back to the house to close the tap. Imagine my surprise to find all my goldfish up and swimming around!

That is a miracle.

It is a retelling in small letters of the miracle in large letters written across the whole world: Life abounds, is remarkably tough and adaptable even in extreme circumstances. We loose site of this wonder amid the gloom and doom prophecies of our time.

Which doesn’t mean we can ignore the threats to our planet, but that we keep in mind the large letters of the miracle of life.
