After a year long battle with pancreatic cancer the 47 year old Randy Pausch, whose “last lecture” sparked a global internet phenomenon, died early Friday Morning on July 25. If you have somehow missed the Last Lecture you can see the video Here.

Randy Pausch, through his very frank , matter-of-fact, and humor laced, video, brought people to a closer understanding about death, fear, and living your life to the fullest while there is still life within you. This man’s courage, and conviction helped me face my mother’s death with a more open attitude. He has help millions who wrestle with their own mortality to see that it is better to embrace what is here and now. On his website Randy often detailed what he was going through in his battle with his disease, again in a matter-of-manner, designed more to help people understand the process than to sympathize with his own situation.

Through his example Randy tackled our own reluctance to talk about death and showed us a better path to knowledge, just like the very best of professors do.

I offer up my gratitude to you Randy, for your life, for your courage, and for your last and most famous lecture.
