The Book of Awakening: Having the Life You Want by Being Present to the Life You Have
Mark Nepo is a poet of extrordinary ability. He is a philosopher, Teacher, Writer and Guide. He also survived a serious fight with Cancer. This book is written at some point after his battle had been one. The book takes you, one day at a time, through a year of Mr Nepo’s insights into to all things human, what it is to love, to live, to hurt, to cry, to rise up, feel loved, and so much more. Each day is headed up with a title and usually a quote to fit the text below. At the end of each passage is a little meditation exercise to follow.
For me the book has been a journey into the heart of another man, and into the heart of what it is like to be human, and into the gentle soul of Mark Nepo. This isn’t a book you just sit down and read. This is like the riches, dark chocolate you have ever tasted, and few nibbles go a very long way.
There where times as I read this book that Mr Nepo’s words left me gasping, they were so beautiful just in composition, then layer with truth and beauty. I found myself reading passages to anyone who would listen if just for a few minutes. Word like these need to be heard!

But the book is what you need. If you are interested in the human condition, in self-devlopment and awareness, then you need to read this.
I consider this one of the ten most important books I have ever read.
