An Empty sort of mind is valuable for finding pearls and tails and things because it can see what’s in front of it. An Overstuffed mind is unable to. While the Clear mind listens to a bird singing, the Stuffed-Full-of-Knowledge-and-Cleverness mind wonders what kind of bird is singing. The more stuffed up it is the less it can hear through its own ears and see through its own eyes.

Let your senses guide you, let them talk to you, let them lift you, let them sing to you. Don’t attempt to understand them through the use of knowledge, that will only blind you. Listen to the bird sing, not worry about what bird it is. Distractions interfere with reception. Just be: do and have will follow.

I love this wonderful little book, Pooh Bear teaches us the Tao in his own wonderful style.
I laughed and smiled and had my heart filled to the brim as I read this delightful book.

    Hi there,

I’m catching up on all your posts here…Pooh is an old favourite of mine; haven’t read this book but will have to check it out now. The way you describe reading this is how I felt reading Winnie the Pooh books when my daughter was young, different I’m sure but sounds like it still has that whimisical delight from your reaction to it. Here is one of my favourites from the old Pooh books…

“Here comes Edward Bear now, down the stairs behind Christopher Robin. Bump! Bump! Bump! It is, as far as he knows, the only way of coming down the stairs. He is sure that there must be a better way, if only he could stop bumping for a moment to think of it. ”

    Have a great day, Nick

  2. Susan ,

That is a wonderful quote and I will lift it up to one of the Quote of the Day to give it more exsposure. The quote fits into the book perfectly. Bear never really complicates things. He keeps trying to but can never think of a way to do it, so he accepts things as they are in the end and is much better off for it. You’ll love the book.

    Nick
